What motivated you to change?
After I had my son I wanted to be a better mother and person so I knew I needed to make a life change. I wanted to be a role model for my son because growing up I was obese. By the time I was 12 years old I was 250 pounds and bullied really bad. I wanted my son to have a better child hood then I had, because of my weight I never really got to be a kid because I was afraid of my peers making fun of me. So 10 days after I had my son and I had my check up I told myself I was going to make a life style change.
What was your past diet and lifestyle like?
I would go all day without eating because I was ashamed to eat around people. I worked at an office job where I would sit a lot. When I would eat lunch or anything I would hide because I was embarrassed. I would barely move around because I had no energy and when I would get home from work I would binge and watch 4 hours of TV. I would never want to go out anywhere because I hated the way I looked.
I could barely get my socks and shoes on with out breaking a sweat.
What kind of diet do you follow now?
For most of my journey, I have been on a high protein diet. Starchy carbs make me feel gross and bloated so I choose to only eat healthy carbs. I eat 6 to 8 times a day depending on how many hours I am awake and how many hours of training I am doing. I prep all my meals for 3 to 4 days in advance and never leave home without my meals.
What workout routine worked best for you overall?
I do cardio 7 days a week for 40 mins to an hour. With a 3 days training, 1 day rest, 3 days training.
What keeps you motivated to keep pushing?
What keeps me motivated is how amazing I feel. I am full of energy and feel so good. I set new goals to help me keep going so that way I never give up. I am always reading and watching motivational videos to help keep me inspired. My biggest thing is also to surround yourself with like-minded people because you are who you hang out with.
How has your life changed since starting to workout?
YES, my life has changed in so many amazing ways since I started working out. When I first started my journey I use to be depressed and sad all the time. Even when I started eating healthy I was still depressed. Until I started going to the gym my mental state was really negative. When I first started I would go to the gym for 40 mins to an hour of just cardio 5 days a week. Then as I started feeling better I went longer and longer and by 280 I started light lifting and that really made a big difference.
What’s the best advice you can give someone who’s starting out?
I would suggest to anyone starting out do something every day towards your goal. If you can not make it to the gym still eat healthily. Be kind to yourself because this journey is not always easy. Be thankful every night before you go to bed that you made it another day. Tell yourself every day how proud you are. Look in the mirror and learn to love yourself. This journey should be about you and wanting to live a happier and healthier lifestyle. Something I tell people all the time you have to want this because if you are doing it for the wrong reasons you will never get to your goal.
What is your ultimate body/fitness goal?
My ultimate body goal is to compete as a bodybuilder. This has been my dream since I have lost the weight. I have hit most of my goals so this is my biggest goal and once I step on stage I know I will win and keep getting better from there.
